APS Pregnancy Lupus

Recently been diagnosed with lupus after having complications leading to a baby loss at 23 weeks.

Wondering how people went about getting diagnosed and if medications something that help build the immune system or how the meds affect you?

Thanks you

  1. Hello, , first off, I am so very sorry for the loss of your little one. It's never easy to lose a pregnancy, especially that far along. I hope you have a good support system to help you as you move forward and attempt to heal from the loss. And, as a Mama who lost a pregnancy too, let me tell you that you are allowed to grieve however you choose! There are some great online support groups for Moms who have lost a child in pregnancy, if you are interested in those types of resources.

As far your lupus, well, our members have a variety of diagnosis stories, so picking one common story might be a bit challenging. There are a battery of tests a doctor may use to diagnose Lupus and you can read about them here -- https://lupus.net/tests. Also, finding the best treatment for you may take some trial and error, so don't be discouraged if your physician prescribes a medication that's not a great fit for you. Here's some basics on the medications used to treat Lupus symptoms -- https://lupus.net/medications. As far as building your immune system, well, it can be a bit hard to maintain a strong immune system, since Lupus is an autoimmune condition where the immune system is kind of kicked into high gear. So, keeping your immune system healthy while not letting it get too rowdy and keep attacking your body, well, that can take some work. And, while medications can be vitally important, some of our members have had good luck with lifestyle changes and tweaks to their daily routines that have helped manage some Lupus symptoms (for example, always wearing sunscreen and using protective clothing when out in the sun, practicing stress reducing techniques like meditation, focusing on a healthy diet and getting plenty of sleep, etc). Some information on some relatively easy and inexpensive lifestyle changes can be found here -- https://lupus.net/complementary-alternative-medicine
