Vaccines

I have had Lupus for 15 years and have been on a pretty even keel since retiring. I am getting ready to travel to Europe and got both my flu and Covid vaccines. The Covid always gives me a fever and aches for at least the next day. This time the effects have lasted more like a week. What are others opinions on and experiences with the Covid vaccine?

  1. Hi, !

My husband, who does not have Lupus but another autoimmune condition, noticed that his reaction to his recent covid booster was stronger and longer. Mind you, that's pretty anecdotal evidence, but maybe this booster's formulation is just more triggering for some folk's immune systems, especially folks with autoimmune conditions.

As far as opinions, for my family, we have never regretted getting the vaccine and still find the benefits outweigh the potential problems. We all had stronger immune responses to the initial two shot vaccine, way back in 2021. Since then, all reactions have generally been mild. But, each person and family needs to make the choice that is best for them.

If you haven't done so, you might mention your prolonged reaction to the vaccine to your doctor at your next appointment, just to have it on the record. It may be "nothing", but I am a big proponent of having every possible thing written down in my medical records, just to be safe.

I hope you have a WONDERFUL time in Europe and that the trip is everything you want it to be.

    Best, Erin, Team Member.
