Skin rash and hives

Hi I recently broke out in hives and a rash. It started on my neck and weirdly enough it spread to my ankles and upward from there. My dermatologist said it’s contact dermatitis. However I’m wondering if it’s related to my SLE lupus. Has this happened to anyone else?

  1. Hi, !

First off, I'm sorry you are dealing with hives and rashes right now. It could definitely be contact dermatitis, but, as you probably already know, it could also be related to Lupus. Hives and rashes can definitely occur as symptoms of Lupus. I do hope you get some feedback from other community members, but, in the meantime, here is one member's experience with hives -- https://lupus.net/living/hives. And here is an article from one of our health leaders on this topic -- https://lupus.net/living/itchiness. I do hope the hives and rashes clear up quickly and don't return!

      That must be so uncomfortable.
As you may be aware, SLE can affect any area of the body, while the kidneys, joints, and skin are most often affected.
We have a sister site (Chronic-hives.com) that you may find helpful.
I'm including an article from that site that you might be interested in:

I hope you find some answers (and relief) soon.
