Recently diagnosed with Lupus

Hi - Recently diagnosed with Lupus that attached the sac of my heart so my main discomfort/pain is in the chest area more than joints. I am allergic to the hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) so temporarily using low dose prednisone to manage symptom. I am being offered Benlysta and was wondering if anyone else is currently using this infusion medication and how it is effecting you. Thank you - I am lost in this out of nowhere diagnosis.

We're glad you found this community and appreciate you reaching out.
A recent diagnosis can be quite overwhelming.
As your head may be spinning right now, let me say Lupus can cause inflammation of the heart sac (often referred to as pericardium). Pericarditis is the most common heart issue associated with lupus.

I do hope others in this community will chime in with their personal experience with Benlysta. In the meantime, this article may offer some insight: https://lupus.net/living/benlysta

    1. Thank you Doreen. I have been diagnosed with pericarditis and it is currently under control (meaning no more fluid pericarditis effusion). I'll check the link out for Benlysta.
