Hoarse voice

Hi, hope everyone is doing well. Just have a question. Dies anyone's voice start to get hoarse after talking for a while? I've been experiencing this for about a year. Not sure if it's Lupus related or Thyroid related.

  1. Hi, !

While a hoarse voice isn't a typical symptom of Lupus, it could be related to your Lupus, depending on what is behind the hoarseness. Swollen glands can be a symptom of Lupus and that could, in theory, impact your voice. And, secondary conditions like Sjogren's like to tag along with a Lupus diagnosis and Sjogren's can cause vocal issues. But, as you mentioned, it could be related to your thyroid issues. If you haven't done so already, I wouls mention this to your doctor and if he/she doesn't have any answers, you can ask for a referral to an ENT if the hoarseness is especially annoying for you.

  2. I become hoarse very easily. Sometimes after being silent for long periods, others simply when I speak. I don't know how much is caused by dryness, a bad thyroid (hypo) or what. It can be embarrassing and is always uncomfortable physically.

  3. Yes, however mine is related to my Sjögren’s syndrome, which is another autoimmune disease.

    1. , thank you for bringing up Sjogren's! It's not unusual for people with an autoimmune condition to also be diagnosed with Sjogren's, so I am glad you mentioned this condition.

  4. Yes! This has happened for years. This is the first time I've seen it mentioned so thank you for bringing this up!
