Scalp flare up

What are some remedies for scalp flare ups and face sores?

  1. Hi, !

Dealing with scalp flares can be a real challenge. Are you dealing with rashes or sores on the scalp? Either way, I wanted to share a couple of things on this topic that you may find helpful. Here is a conversation from our forums specifically on steroid creams to manage scalp issues -- https://lupus.net/stories/steroid-cream-scalp. And here's another conversation from the forums on dry scalp and how to manage it -- https://lupus.net/stories/dry-scalp. I hope some of the tips shared will give you some ideas.

Now, when it comes to your facial sores; I have to admit that I am stumped. I am familiar with mouth and nose sores in relation to Lupus and facial rashes, but not specifically sores. That said, I am by no means an expert on all things Lupus and I know some of the rashes can be very raised and inflamed. Here's an article on the topic of facial rashes and scarring and a few members chime in at the end of the piece with their own experiences and suggestions for rashes and scarring. I hope it's helpful and fell free to let me know if I missed the mark on what you are looking for.

Again, I hope this information helps you and that you get a nice, long break from Lupus flare ups!

    1. Thank you for this information. I guess they ar not really face sores but if I get a bump from being in the sun it takes forever to go away. I also get nose & mouth sores & those are awful. The sores on my face look more like acne but they take forever to heal.

      1. , ok, gotcha. Thanks for going into some detail for me. It sounds like you might be dealing with that typical Lupus rash, which I know feels anything but 'typical' when you are the one experiencing it! That sun sensitivity that can come with Lupus is a bummer to deal with, especially in the summer! Are you able to wear suncreens and/or hats? I know those are by no means guarantees when it comes to avoiding facial flares, but they can help.

If nothing else, please know you are not the only one experiencing these symptoms. While I wouldn't wish Lupus on anyone, I know it sometimes helps to know you are not alone in this.
