Dry Scalp? What Do You Do for It?

Hi. Does anyone else have dry scalp? And what do you do for it? I am getting growths of some kind on my face like keratosis too. The last flare I had left me with this terrible scalp.

Hi JoAnn, I don't have dry scalp but I know several people in my lupus support group that have dealt with this issue. I remember them sharing that they used steroid shampoos, such as Clobex, and foaming steroid creams or ointments, such as Clobetasol, on their scalps and they really helped. It may be best to see a dermatologist to address this issue and receive treatments for it, if you aren't already. Buy vitamin D on capsules and warm it up on your hands, makes wonders. I have curly hair and has helped me tons. <inline-mention user-id="2040792" username="magicalpatterns"/>

I would like to add just a couple of additional considerations if I may? Most importantly, thank you for bringing your question up, because if you're experiencing this...many others might be as well (I know I do at times). I agree that seeing a dermatologist is always a good place to start since we cannot provide medical advice, for your own safety. In the meantime, you may wish to consider using Derm approved fragrance free shampoo that can be more gentle and less irritating (consider sulfate free). The other thing that may be worth mentioning is looking at your stress level, since our stress contributes to changes in our bodies. If nothing else, calming the mind may contribute to calming the body (including skin/scalp sensitivity). Hi my name is Sally and my scleroderma/ lupus is active I'm fifty-five yrs old mother of two beautiful boy's,grandmother to seven sweet grandbabies. I already had chronic back pain due to a fall in the bath tub way back when then this happened and of course it comes with other complications but God only knows this time around it's been difficult and very painful. I have more bad day's than good day's right now. I thought I could handle it on my own so I never signed up for this before but I think it's time to talk to someone who is going thru this too. Someone who understands why I can't get out of bed or why I'm moving so slow. I sure could use some fed back I'm on so much med's the lupus is making my hair fall out😭😭 the methotrexate makes me sick I'm just so overwhelmed 😭😷😷😷

But I'm very glad you're reaching out and looking for help and feedback. I know what it's like to have more bad days than good days and it's definitely overwhelming and discouraging. I'm also on a lot of meds and have suffered substantial hair loss from lupus and the meds for it. If the methotrexate is making you very sick you may want to ask your doctor to try another medication - there are several options. I take imuran, plaquenil, and Benlysta for my lupus. Methotrexate is a notoriously difficult drug for many people and it's okay to say that the drug is too harsh and you need to try something else. You may also want to consider seeing a therapist - especially if you can find one that specializes in chronic pain.
