Chemically indused stress test

Had chemically indused stress test and went to er. My arms and legs were jumping up and down, heart racing from 72 to 124 every 30 seconds for hours, chest pain, hands and feet knumb and tingly. Antone ever experience this?

  1. Oh, goodness, ! First off, I am so sorry you experienced this. Second, I am not aware of any members of this community having a similar experience, but that doesn't mean someone here hasn't gone through this.

That said, I assume the ER staff told you that this can sometimes happen with a chemically induced stress test. I do have questions about why you had a stress test and if you were properly monitored during the test, but you do not have to answer those questions, if you prefer not to.

I don't know the exact numbers of how often a response like yours occur, but it's definitely not unheard of.

How are you feeling now? Is your heartrate returning to your normal? Will you be following up with your physician this week or next week?

    1. ,
I too, am sorry you had this experience. That had to be scary.
I certainly hope you are doing better today.
I'm wondering if you had a nuclear stress test (where they injected radio active dye), or a pharmacologic stress test (where medicine is administered to mimic a heart attack). You may have possibly had a reaction and it may be helpful to know what was used for testing. I've had the nuclear stress test numerous times and had been told that a reaction (although not common) may occur.
I would recommend reaching out to your healthcare provider to discuss your experience and try to find some answers.
In the meantime, I'm sharing an article from one of our sister sites where a patient leader shares their stress test experience: https://heart-failure.net/living/my-experience-with-a-stress-test
