Medications

GM , I was diagnosed a year ago and started off of plaquenil , have since added Cellcept, Benlysta, and Sulfasalazine, and vitamin D. I am not seeing a huge improvement is this common?

  1. ,
I’m sorry to hear you are not seeing much improvement with your current course of treatment.
It’s important to note that many of these medications typically begin working (reducing lupus symptoms) within 8-12 weeks and can take upwards of 6-12 months to achieve the full effect.
Doctors will often assess treatment efficiency between the 3-6 month mark.
You may want to reach out to your healthcare provider with any concerns

  2. Thank you , yes I have been on 3 of them for a year now , the benlysta is on its 3rd month so I am feeling hopeful. Thank you so much.

    1. , I just want to chime in here and second what Doreen wrote. You have every right to discuss your concerns about the efficacy of the treatments you are on with your doctor, especially if you feel like the medications may not be working well. I do hope you start seeing some positive results from the Benlysta very, very soon!
