Gallbladder Surgery

Hi everyone, I'm having my gallbladder removed in a few weeks and I wanted to know if anyone has had a bad flare up afterwards. Any input would be appreciated.

  1. Hi, !

First off, I hope your procedure goes well and that your recovery is smooth (and flare free)! Second; I did not find any conversations on this site in regards to your specific question. As you probably well know, Lupus can definitely flare after anything the body perceives as a stressor or trauma and surgery would definitely fall under that category. So, if you asked me, I would hope for the best and plan for the worst. I really hate that saying, but darn it, it kind of works in scenarios like this. I would assume you WON'T flare, but maybe have everything in place should your Lupus flare up. So, have your Lupus tool kit stocked and ready to go, if you can. I hope other community members that have experience with gall bladder surgery can chime in here and offer you some insider perspective and again, I hope the whole surgery/recovery goes well!

    1. Hi ,
Lupus and gallbladder surgery are more common than one might think.
I had gallbladder surgery (laparoscopic) about 20 years ago. I don't remember too much, but I do recall the recovery wasn't as bad as I anticipated.
I hope some of our community members will chime in here with their personal experiences, and I wish you all the best.

      1. Hi firstly

Best of luck with the surgery I truly hope it goes ok for you - I had a hysterectomy last year and I did have a flare although I feel the hormonal massive change was the factor - I’m actually having a different surgery tomorrow so I do get why your asking this question from how things are with me and lupus I know that when I’m emotionally stressed or a physical change I have been getting flares and now I’ve learnt more how to predict as best I can how my body will be so I try and instill relaxing moments amongst stressors and it has at least helped a little - so plenty of rest and to try and focus just on what you need moment by moment with this , will help you enormously- try and eat non triggering foods make sure your comfy as you can be and take very good care of yourself and I’m sure it will all be ok - wishing you all the best xxxxx

        1. I have not had gall bladder surgery but I have had surgery for a shattered ankle. The only adverse effect I had was losing a lot of my hair. My doctor told me to get Nutrafol. This is not an advertisement for Nutrafol. I'm just passing on information that worked for me. I hope your surgery goes well.
