anhidrosis

Is Lupus and anhidrosis connected? I haven't gotten a diagnosis yet but I don't sweat like a normal person. I sweat very little on my lower back and under my breast. This is scary because I can't tolerate heat at all, I almost caught a stroke. I just want to know because my rheumatologist doesn't seem to know. I got tested for Sjögren’s syndrome, but it came normal, yet my eyes, skin
and mouth are always dry. Anyone else?

  1. Hi, !

While I wouldn't say that Lupus and anhidrosis are linked, anhidrosis can be a rare symptom or sign of Lupus. Again, it's pretty rare, but after doing some quick research, it does appear to happen at times.

I found this interesting article on anhidrosis and Lupus -- https://kaleidoscopefightinglupus.org/lupus-and-overheating/. And here's a more clinical article on the topic -- https://journals.lww.com/aora/fulltext/2022/02020/lupus_erythematosus_with_segmental_anhidrosis.5.aspx. Also, it's worth mentioning that Sjogren's and anhidrosis occur together at times, too.

Are doctors treating your anhidrosis? I know treatment tends to be more about avoidance of overheating, but have your doctors helped you navigate your diagnosis at all?

Please do keep us posted on your diagnosis journey, if you feel comfortable doing so. Whether you are diagnosed with Lupus or not, please know you are welcome here.

  2. Thank you for the information and yes I do have Lupus. My doctor doesn't know much about it but I would need to see a dermatologist for further testing. I believe they are the ones that treat it, not my rheumatologist.

    1. ,
I hope the dermatologist will be able to help find some answers (and relief!).

    2. , ok. Thanks for explaining that to us. I hope the dermatologist is able to help you navigate the anhidrosis. Best of luck! I know dealing with one health condition can be hard enough, let alone two!
