, This is a great question, but unfortunately a difficult one to answer. Lupus flares can appear differently from person to person. Some people may find that a mild or moderate flare causes a rash or more joint pain. In others, severe flares require medical attention because organ damage can occur. One of our patient leaders just wrote an article that explained a lupus flare she experienced after recovering from covid-19: https://lupus.net/living/lupus-flare-after-covid. This article explains some signs to help gauge if a flare is coming: https://lupus.net/triggers-flares. I hope some of this helps!

I get joint pain, headaches, increased blood pressure, fatigue when I am in a flare. I usually find out the other problems when I get bloodwork and scans done.

, So frustrating how long it takes to get support sometimes. Six hours is a LONG time to sit in that bright emergency room. Glad you got through it!

The ER was packed, and they were waiting for beds on the hospital floor so that could transfer the ER patients to the floor; also the hospital rooms needed to be cleaned. Some people left and went to other hospitals.

it depends on The type of flare for me.it can go from simply being fatigued to full blown feeling like I've been runnover by a truck a train while fighting the flu. Body aches fatigue confusion can all get me. It varies but I have found when I have weird dreams a flare usually comes right after. A great question. I have kept a journal for years to keep track of when they come and what they feel like. ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member
