Should I be worried about unexplained bruises on the wrist, knuckle and elbow of one arm?

Hi all 👋 really happy to have found this community, as I’m a bit stumped and could do with another pov (or two!). I’ve been diagnosed with hypermobility and inflammatory arthritis while my consultant is investigating… My symptoms seem to me very much like lupus though the more I research - rash on my face after sun exposure, constant headaches, dry eyes, flu like symptoms, night sweats and of course joint pain and some numbness in my hand and feet. In the last couple of days I’ve suddenly got these bruise like marks with accompanying pain on my wrist joint, the knuckle of the same limb and the elbow (bad pic attached!) I’ve written to my consultant but he’s been slow replying and just wanted some advice as to whether this is something I should get seen urgently? I’m having to pay for private healthcare so keeping unnecessary trips minimal is good 😉 . I’m taking prednisone 10mg and hydroxychloroquine btw. Any help very much appreciated! xx

  1. , I'm so sorry for all the pain and discomfort you have been experiencing without answers or relief! It's hard to determine if what you are experiencing is lupus related in this forum, but the symptoms you listed are certainly associated with folks managing lupus! Have you considered asking for a referral to a Rheumatologist (if you aren't seeing one already). They specialize in diagnosing and treating autoimmune conditions like lupus, and might be able to help you get some clarity!

    1. sorry you are dealing with all of that and then this new issue. I couldn't tell you if it needs to be seen urgently, for me I always feel it's all urgent because it's new. I honestly can say I get these bruises when a flare is coming and/or when my white blood count is low. I would definitely speak to your doctor and possibly get a referral to rheumatologist that may be able to help better. ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member

      1. I get random bruises ALL THE TIME and it's infuriating 😅
They've never been a "problem" aside from the tenderness and looks.

I also get what I call "nerve jolts" and I kid you not, I was dead asleep and my arm jolted so hard that I fractured my arm. 😓
We are an interesting breed to say the least lol.

        1. the jolts are very interesting. I'm so sorry you fractured your arm with that. That had to be scary and painful. An interesting breed for sure I agree. ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member
