Lupus and itching

I'm new to lupus and I'm waiting to see a rheumatologist but since I found out that I more than likely have lupus my skin condition has gotten way worse. I'm red, itchy, patchy, and dry and no matter how much moisturizer I put on nothing helps. I'm not sleeping now because I start itching so badly when I lay down it keeps me from sleeping. What are some things that help you guys with itching.

  1. I am so sorry you are dealing with all of this. Being newly diagnosed can be so overwhelming. The itching can also be relentless. This article has a long list of other skin related complications that some people with lupus experience: https://lupus.net/skin The last paragraph has many treatment options to talk to your doctor about during your next appointment. I hope you are able to get some answers and relief soon!

    1. the itching can be so bad. I have scratched me skin raw from it at times. For me I have found that cold showers help and Benadryl at times. ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member

      2. My precursor to a flare is a raised, red rash on my lower legs that itches like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. Makes me crazy…sometimes almost the point of tears. I’ve found that two things that truly help: Maximum Strength Cortizone-10 Creme (Intensive Healing Formula) and aerosol spray with lidocaine. Walmart has one in their Equate brand and it works great.

        1. , I am sorry you are familiar with the itching that can come with Lupus. But, I am glad you have found some products that being you some relief. Thanks for sharing the tips about where to find these products, too!
