Breathing problems with Lupus

Hi. I'm new to this group and hope you can help me.
So I was diagnosed with Asthma in 1984, COPD in 2018, Fibromyalgia earlier this year and Lupus just a few months ago. I have been really struggling with my breathing since 2017 and today I had to have another Spirometry test. The nurse said that today I don't seem to be as bad as the last time but inside my lungs were burning with pain and I couldn't speak properly because I couldn't get enough breath. She said it's more likely that the Fibromyalgia and/or Lupus are causing the problems than COPD. I'm feeling quite confused and a little concerned that I may have been given the wrong treatment for all these years.
I was wondering if anyone else has any similar problems or suggestions please?
Many thanks

  1. Welcome to the forum. I am sorry you are going through these issues. Lupus can mimic so many different diseases and can cause some confusion on diagnosis. We are often misdiagnosed because of that mimicking that lupus does. I have had issues with costochondritis and pleurisy that cause some breathing issues. I was already diagnosed by the time I had those issues. But hindsight is twenty twenty I can remember having issues with breathing as a young woman. I hope that the treatment that you have been using hasn't caused any issues. I am glad that they are starting to narrow it down and hopefully a treatment plan can be developed to help you find some relief.

    1. Thank you

        1. I have lupus, asthma, fibromyalgia, have a partial collapsed lung and deal with breathing issues. I use a BIPAP at night which helps keep my oxygen up
Fortunately I do not have COPD, which can make life very difficult. I use an inhaler when needed as I also use a nebulizer when needed. It is a struggle, just know you are not alone. I dont have a hard time talking either which I'm sure is very difficult. Sending a hug🤗

          1. it’s definitely a struggle sending you positive vibes on those rough days . ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member
