Body pain/ flare up

I take 5mgs of prednisone every day. I hurt every day and it seems that even my diet affects my body. I get what I call rolling flare ups. Constantly. I’m so tired of being tired and feeling sick. What can I do?. My family is tired of hearing me say that I feel sick.

  1. My heart goes out to you for the pain you're experiencing. What have you been eating lately? As you noted, diet can impact flares. Have you tried adopting an anti-inflammatory diet? This article has some tips for foods to avoid and which ones to incorporate to decrease inflammation: https://lupus.net/living/nutrition and this article was written by a rheumatologist with tips for how to eat the anti-inflammatory diet on a budget: https://lupus.net/living/anti-inflammatory-diet. Have you tried other complementary treatments alongside your medication? Some people have found that soaking in epsom salt baths can help ease muscle pain. Here are some other complementary treatment options to consider: https://lupus.net/mental-health/complementary-alternative-therapies Thinking of you!

    1. I am sending you gentle hugs. The pain can be relentless and it can be hard to figure out everything we need to do to minimize it. Between the flares and fatigue it can really take a toll on us mentally and physically. I have found finding a support group can help. It helps for you to understand that you aren't alone and gives you hope. For pain and fatigue, this may sound counterproductive, but I move more. It helps me to create endorphins and helps me feel better. I know it's hard to do that when you are in pain and just out of it but it works for me. I also rest and sleep because sometimes that's all I can do. I only do what I can and don't worry about others perceptions of me. most time lupus is so hard to understand by those who don't have it. We are here to support you. ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member
