Traveling causes lupus flare

I recently went on a trip and got a lupus flare going and then coming back. The flare causes fever, tired, body aches, sinus issues and coughing. A lupus flare also occurred when I got a flu and covid shot. Anyone else gets those flares?

  1. Ugh! I'm so sorry you experienced flares both coming and going, ! I know that some of our members have shared that flares can be triggered by situations that the body perceives as stressful, like getting vaccinations or traveling. Here's an article one of our members wrote about what her personal triggers are -- https://lupus.net/living/triggers-flares. I thought you might find it relatable. Most of your symptoms sounds like pretty typical flare symptoms, except for coughing and sinus issues. I'm not saying they can't be Lupus symptoms, but is it possible being in a Lupus flare left you susceptible to catching a cold as well?

I hope you're feeling better by now!

    1. Sorry those flares caught you while you were travelling. This happens to me often. The stress of the trip, sitting long hours and even the excessive fun can trigger a flare up. I also noticed what I eat and the water consumption (whether it's from a bottle or tap water)) can cause some flaring for me too. I usually take a couple of days to rest and gather my strength back. It can be very tiring on the body travelling. I am holding space for some comfort and relief for you. ~Racquel ~ lupus.net team member

      1. What do you mean by water consumption? Drinking too much or too little?

      2. a combination of amount and type. When traveling especially out of country I watch the consumption of tap water. I also watch the amount. Because although water is great for you too much can be harmful to. ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member

    2. I wound up in the hospital on my first flight in 30 years. I started sweating profusely, couldn't walk or talk almost passed out.

      1. , oh, no! That must have been pretty scary! Have you been able to fly since that incident? I could understand if that experience kept you from wanting to get on a plane again!
