Problem getting pain meds?

How many have had issues getting pain medications? Has it been a struggle to convince your doctor that your pain is real and has become unbearable?

  1. 22 years and still no help. Even though I have had numerous specialist state I need medicine for chronic pain.😔

    1. My husband goes with me but he doesn't drive much anymore. But he's good moral support and could drive if emergency.

    2. Lori S, I was diagnosed with RA in 2015 and then lupus in 2019. I cant even get a pain management doctor to prescribe me which is an advil on steroids or even a muscle relaxer. Its such a shame how the abusers ruined it for those of us who could really use a little something to just get through a day or catch some sleep at night.

  2. No, they say that because I'm a good girl they do not want to prescribe anything that I may become addicted to is what I was told. To be exact they said that because i have never been in a detox, arrested, have a solid work history, counseling and family support. They were concerned about prescribing anything. This is after 21 emergency room visit in one year. This was told to me by a addiction psychology and the Pain Dr. At this point i take tylenol and lay in bed. It's sad, detrimental to me. I am full of so much energy its unheard of and all I may do is be a prisoner in my home and mind. Thank you

    1. sorry you are experiencing this. Have you taken tramadol with Tylenol. Tramadol helps my lupus/arthritis pain.

    2. That’s crazy. That should be an indication that you wouldn’t abuse the pain meds. Most doctors cannot write prescriptions for pain. You normally have to go to a Pain Management center.

  3. I have seen more than 200 hundred doctors and specialists. Its just sickening

    1. I am so sorry you are going through this. It's such a big issue for people who honestly are dealing with so much pain. I hope you find a doctor that will understand your needs and help you to find some relief. I know this is so hard to deal with. ~Racquel~ lupus.net(Team Member)

      1. I really wish even rhematologist understood what the pain feels like. My BP is extremely high when I'm in pain. My last medical Dr was only interested in prescribing BP meds, she could care less about the Lupus. Yet I think it's because of it being a income based clinic. I am shopping now for new rhematologist. My last one was just his practitioner and thinks that steroids and Tramadol can even touch this pain. Now I'm fatter from steroids and in even more pain

      2. , Finding the right doctor can be a long and difficult journey. It shouldn't be so hard to find someone who really makes you feel heard and supported (but sadly, it is)! I hope you are able to find a doctor that fits your needs better, sooner rather than later!
