How many of you have issues with your toenails or fingernails? Do your toenails fall off or do you have weak and fragile fingernails? How does your doctor handle this?

  1. Lol...my nails are thin and grooved. When my son married I splurged on fake nails...only to have them begin to fall off before the ceremony. For mother's day my sweet daughter painted my nails with a strength coat and then gel polish...guess what? The next day my polish was peeling off...hello little dab of super glue to reattach it.

    1. , oh, my. How annoying! It does seem like Lupus can find creative ways to cause problems, doesn't it?

  2. My second toe on my left foot nail has fallen off twice. Don’t k ow why. Need to ask my rheumatologist.

    1. ,
Oh man, that must be bothersome (and perhaps painful).
It's good to bring this to your rheumatologists attention.

  3. Mine are thin and split and have lines in them I just live with it lol

    1. yeah it’s definitely something to live with and have to be on with. ~Racquel ~ Team Member

  4. My nails are extremely brittle and painful. I notice that when I wash dishes or clean my bathroom or bathe, thry become very painful on the tips of my finger where my nail will not grow. I also have painful sores/lesions on the tips of my fingers near the edge of my nails. I try my hardest to not bump my finger tips against anything. I accidently bumped my fingers against the counter as I was cleaning. Talk about painful! My nails are not growing back. Anytime a nail grows, it splits. Anyone else have a similar experience?Painful, brittle nails

    1. , That sounds brutal. You are definitely not alone. One of our patient leaders wrote about how lupus impacts her nails in this article: https://lupus.net/living/nail-issues Sending gentle hugs to you!

    2. so difficult to deal with. Have you spoken to your doctor about it all? Sometimes it could be more than just brittle painful nails. Speaking to your doctor may help to get better clarification. I know the feeling of just the wind blowing on my nails and making them hurt. 😞 ~Racquel~ team member
