How are your Flares?

I recently had one of the worst flares I have ever had. However, I kept questioning if I just had a stomach bug or if it was a flare. As it continued I realized it was definitely a flare even if it did start out otherwise. Also, during this time (it lasted almost a week) I would have times where I felt okay, thought I was better, and then it would take me down again. Do flares affect anyone else this way?

  1. Hi, !

First off, I am so sorry you experienced such a bad flare! I know flares can really be the pits.

I know some folks have described their flares as seeming to wax and wane or feel kind of like the flu or another virus, so I know you're not alone in what you dealt with. Flares seem to present in a ton of different ways, depending on the person. If you haven't seen this already, I thought you might appreciate this info on different flares (and there are a nice number of member comments following the piece as well) -- https://lupus.net/living/lupus-flares. I do hope other community members will chime in here with their flare experiences, but again, I think what you experienced is kind of typical for some folks with Lupus.

I hope you stay flare free for the rest of 2025!

    2. , Hi Erin! I am doing much better thank you for asking. The article was helpful as well. From reading on here, I know many have it so much worse than I do, but sometimes it just hits hard and it's frustrating. But I am so grateful to this website and the wonderful admins and members on here so we do not feel alone. Thank you!

      1. , I'm so glad you're doing better! And I am glad this community can offer you some support and camaraderie! That's what we're here for. And sure, your Lupus could be worse, but no one here will ever tell you that living with Lupus is easy or that you should be glad your symptoms aren't more pronounced. Living with Lupus can be really hard and we know that.
