Hi, !
First off, apologies on the delay to offer a response! So, dolquine (also known as hydroxychloroquine) can suppress the immune system. You can definitely discuss any concerns you have with your physician, if you haven't already done so. I know some folks choose to mask up in high risk situations (cold and flu season at indoor events, flying in an airplane, etc). It really becomes a bit of a risk assessment situation for each individual. You have to decide what risks are worth taking and what precautions are worth taking, if that makes sense. I tend to go to the Mayo Clinic website when I have medical questions and I wanted to share this link to their recommended precautions when taking hydroxychloroquine -- https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/hydroxychloroquine-oral-route/precautions/drg-20064216. I think many folks that are otherwise healthy tend to just focus on good handwashing hygeine, avoiding risky situations (you know, like the family get together where you just know there will be sick folks), and trying to help your immune system in other ways (staying hydrated, getting a healthy amount of sleep, trying to maintain a healthy diet, etc). But again, it's really up to you since it's YOUR health and if you get ill, you're the one who has to deal with it. I don't want to inundate you with information, but I did want to share some pieces from our sister site for Rheumatoid Arthritis, as they touch on staying healthy when on immunosuppressants. Here's one -- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/bracing-for-flu-season. And here's another that I liked -- https://rheumatoidarthritis.net/living/staying-healthy-tips. I also hope you get some helpful feedback from other Lupus.net community members.
