Looking for Rheumatologist Advice

How would you go about looking for a new Rheumatologist? I need to switch providers because the one I see now isn't very attentive to what I'm saying when it comes to my treatment. Like my last appointment, for example, I told him the hydroxychloroquine wasn't helping and I wanted to try this medicine my cousin's wife is on who has lupus and it worked for her. He dismissed me, and instead started me on Prednisone. All that has done is make me gain weight. I don't need to gain any more weight! I need to lose weight!! Long story short, I need to find a new Rheumatologist, and soon! Anyone in WV that might be able to help me?? Thanks!

  1. Sorry to hear that your current rheumatologist isn't working out, . I believe you can ask your primary care provider (assuming you have one), for a referral to a new rheumatologist. That is one way to go about it. - Cody (Team Member)

    1. ,That's a good idea. I probably will end up having to ask my primary doctor. Besides, my insurance requires me to get a referral anyhow.

      1. Hi @LisaMarie42 sorry to hear about the difficulty with your rheumatologist. does your insurance company have a website where you can see all the in network providers? you can even try calling their hotline number. for my insurance plan I didnt need a referral so I just scheduled an appt with one who had the earliest opening. If you do need a referral can your GP refer you to one? - Geri (lupus.net, team member)

        1. Sorry that you are dealing with that. It's always so hard to have doctor that doesn't listen or hear you. You can go on your insurance website to find different doctors or like stated ask your primary care for a referral. The internet is a good resource to find different specialists in your area. I hope it works out for you. ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member
