Positive lupus anticoagulant

I just got a positive lupus anticoagulant test results. I see hematology next month. Does anyone else test positive for that?

  1. , While I haven't had personal experience with that particular test, I'm sure you are not alone. Have you met with a Rheumatologist as well or are you waiting to talk to your Hematologist first?

    1. ,
      We appreciate you reaching out.
It certainly can be a bit confusing and overwhelming.
From what I understand, a lupus anticoagulant test checks for antibodies that may cause blood clotting. The name of the test is confusing because it doesn't actually test for lupus, and while lupus patients may have these antibodies they aren't specific to lupus.
I'm sure your hematologist will be able to explain this better at your upcoming appointment. In the meantime, I thought I'd share this article that discusses specific blood tests and lupus: https://lupus.net/blood-tests

      1. the different values in tests can mean so many different things. I am not a doctor but what I have learned is to really discuss blood tests with my rheumatologist. I've asked for them to really explain what each one means in simple terms. I have learned along the years that antiphospholipid syndrome and lupus anticoagulant syndrome are prevalent sometimes with lupus. This article may be helpful in explaining it some. https://lupus.net/aps ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member
