Males trying to conceive w/ partner while on heavy meds

I am a 33 year old male with lupus nephritis. I am on cellcepts (hydroxychlorquine, lupynis, Losartan pills to control my lupus. I was told that trying to conceive with my partner on those meds, there is a chance of birth defects if stayed on the meds while trying.....

Anyone have any experience, advice if their rheumatologist had told them to come off for a few months while trying to conceive, or did you just stay on it during whole process with no complications/birth defects when baby was born....

  1. , Thank you for sharing this with us, this is such an important conversation to have. While I do not have personal experience with this, I wondered if you were told this by your Rheumatologist or by someone else? You probably have already discussed this with your doctor, but I agree that it is wise to get a second opinion! I'll keep an eye out for any research or information in the meantime that might be helpful. Sending warm thoughts to you and your partner through this process!

    1. I was told if I wanted to conceive again that I would need to come off all meds for at least a year to remove the possibility of birth defects. At the time I was on cellcept, immuran and prednisone. I decided to be safe and not try again. But, my rhuemy was adamant about stopping meds to prevent issues with the baby. ~Racquel ~ lupus.net team member
