Plant Based Diet

Hi,
Hope everyone is having a good day. I just have a question for my fellow warriors. Does anyone follow Dr Goldners advice/diet? If so, how is it working for you?

  1. Hi, !

I was only able to find one discussion within our community about the Goldner diet, and it's brief -- https://lupus.net/stories/now-on-dialysis. That said, I did a little digging on the protocol. I probably can't tell you anything you don't already know about the program and eating a healthy diet is almost always a great idea. And, people with autoimmune conditions are sometimes allergic or sensitive to certain foods and avoiding those foods can help with inflammation. That said, not all people have the same triggers (although cutting back on white sugar and white flour is almost always a good idea). Some people are sensitive to nightshade plants, others to caffeine. It may take some trial and error to find what foods, if any, impact your Lupus.

Also, if some diets are too restrictive, it can be hard to stick with them for the long haul. And this diet looks a little strict. The study Dr. Gardber submitted for publication in medical journals only had three participants, which is pretty darned low -- https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10949923/.

All this to say that, I would check with your doctor before starting the program and use your knowledge of your own body and your common sense to decide what works best for you. You can eat healthy on a budget (though, admittedly, it will probably be more expensive than eating cheap junk food, at least in the short term).

Do I think certain diets/protocols can help with Lupus symptoms? Absolutely. Do I know of a diet that can cure Lupus? No.

And, I sincerely hope other members you may have tried this program will chime in here. I am always interested in learning from folks who have actually done the program!

    Best, Erin, Team Member.
