, Thats a great question and unfortunately a hard one to answer definitively. Lupus is caused by a complex interplay of genes, hormones, specific medications, viruses and infections, and environmental factors. There's some more information in this article: https://lupus.net/basics and this article explores one of the specific viruses associated with lupus: https://lupus.net/clinical/epstein-barr-virus. Hope this helps!

Such a difficult question to answer. For me, I have learned that my diet , stress and sleep patterns play a role in my lupus fog. I had to begin keeping journals to figure it out. But, sometimes my body and mind just don't mix for no reason at all. ~Racquel~ lupus.net team member
