Coping with Grief and Lupus

I am 46 years old and was diagnosed with Lupus SLE in 2000. I’ll never forget it.

Diagnosed with lupus while grieving

This was at the time I lost my best friend, my grandmother. It started with hair loss, fatigue, low platelet counts, and pain. Years and years of pain, medications and infusions. Multiple hospitalizations, blood platelet transfusions, I lived in fear of what each day might bring.

Lupus nephritis

Then came the big fight, Lupus Nephritis... I had to make decisions I never thought I would make. I had choose between treatments that would save my kidneys but ruin my chance of ever giving birth. This right before my wedding. I chose the go through treatment never being to carry a child of my own.

Coping and finding peace

In spite of it all I was able to find peace in the blended family God blessed me with. Years later I’m still fighting the fight and overcoming in spite of Lupus. I am strong and no longer live in fear. I am strong and I am more than Lupus. I will never give up!
