It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
It is the time of the year where smiles are put on each other's faces and gifts are given because it is the thought that counts. The challenges we faced this year changed us and helped us grow.
The year of loss
This year was not the year for me, but I am happy to spend it with the family that I still have. This was the year of loss. The year of many losses. My soul was torn this year by losing at least four people I love the most. The week I had my daughter, my grandmother passed, and my cousin (BFF) died also. Then I lost a few more people and the year is not even over yet.
My daughter's first Christmas
This will be my daughter's first Christmas, so this is very special for me. She will be spoiled with every toy she will be able to play with later. Someone told me to rewrap the presents until she is old enough to play with them. My mom's mother, my grandmother's, birthday is on the 15th and my mother's birthday is on Christmas. She believes she gets triple gifts because of this. Christmas is about having cheer and appreciating the time you have together. It is the thought that counts with giving gifts away. This year I will be in Atlanta, GA with my mom's side of the family.
Playing it safe for Christmas
Social distancing will be in effect and no I do not fly on planes, I drive. I believe that COVID is much worse to fly, especially during traveling times. Even though this is a holiday we all can enjoy, we need to take natural precautions to be safe during this time. Where I am in Louisiana, it is like we go back and forth between phase 1 and phase 2. When I go out, people would ask me where my daughter is, and I tell them it is not safe for her to go out right now. I cannot wait for Christmas.
Enjoying each moment of Christmas
I cannot wait to eat all the foods that are not in my diet. The food that I would love to smell but cannot eat. I cannot wait to see my nieces and nephews and play with them. I am so glad to be able to be around my mutual family. My mom's house is so big that everyone can be in their own room and text each other if we wanted to. This Christmas, Ava will know what it is like to sit at a table and eat as a family.
She will listen to the holiday music by Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey and I will sip on some good ole holiday egg nog – something to quench my thirst and feed my soul. I cannot wait to see the snowfall in Lithonia. I think that it will snow this year. It will close 2020 out so beautifully if it snows. It is best to enjoy life while you can because tomorrow is not promised to us. Keep your vision alive by living each day like it's your last.
