Doctor Care

My rheumatologist will only help with prescribing Mycophenolate and taking blood & urine every 6 months. I'm deathly allergic to Plaquenil or Hydroxycloroquine so all I have is the Cell-Cept and occasional steroids. As far as the Lupus fatigue, sleep problems, skin problems from the discoid lupus, brain fog or anything else caused by the lupus has to be handled by other doctors. This presents a hassle. Is it the same with other rheumatologist out there?

  1. Hi, !

I am sorry you have a complicated situation when it comes to your Lupus symptoms and your allergies to more common medications to treat Lupus. It's not all that unusual for people to need more than one doctor to address all their health issues, but if you feel that your rheumatologist isn't providing with the level of expertise and care that you need, then you have every right to seek out a new rheumatologist. Personally, I would want a rheumatologist that seems more proactive on tackling *all* of the issues caused by an autoimmune condition. My understanding is that many rheumatologists do manage more than just testing and prescribing medications.

I hope you are able to find a solution to this issue and if it's a new rheumatologist, that you find the right one for you!

    1. My rheumatologist will only deal with inflammation in my body and lupus bur doesn't address my other reissues like lupus fatigue which is extreme. So bad that I had to quit driving . My body is unreliable . Vertigo . I hate it because they expect my rheumatologist to c9ver all the lupus symptoms. I have cognitive issues to . Along with pain joint swelling , leg cramps and more it's extremely frustrating that the specialist isn't helping with the symptoms of thsi disease or is only to a certain point.

      1. , oh, man. I personally think your Rheumatologist *should* address all the issues caused by your Lupus or at the very least, be willing to refer you to specialists who might be able to help with some of the issues you are dealing with.

Are you able to try to find another Rheumatologist?
